Fear is the reaction to information or lack of it. It’s not the information by itself. Attitudes are more important than facts. The same information can bring hope and inspiration or produce fear. Fear or hope is our interpretation of the information we have. This interpretation goes beyond the message to include the messenger, the prevailing circumstances, the options available to us and our perception of ourselves. Even though our reactions appear spontaneously, it’s still an inborn, subconscious but logical and rational response. Logical in accordance with our reality. Many people get paralyzed when confronted with challenges others get invigorated. This is either nature or nurture but can be cultivated.
Preparing for the worse case scenario is not being pessimistic but actually it’s being optimistic!

The main challenge facing governments the world over concerning the COVID 19 pandemic is very basic. The virus is virulently easy to transmit and community transmission can become easily exponential. The results on our healthcare system and community cohesiveness and governance can be devastating.
2. The numbers of critical care beds and ventilators is even lesser. In Benin City for instance we have just about 12 for a city of about 3 million people. This means that healthcare workers will have to make the hard decision of who to try and save! Already that is going on in Europe now unless we can quickly scale up.
Yes. Between January 1918 and December 1920 the Spanish flu killed over 50 million people affecting the whole world including Africa! Lagos had its hit with many running into the hinterland to escape the plague. So there is potential for widespread effects but being informed means that we can do something about it. Treating cases alone cannot suffice, we must prevent the spread of the infection.
1. The number of available hospital bed space is finite. In Britain it’s 2.8 per 1000 persons and 0.5 in Nigeria. This means that the UK has about 184,000 hospital beds and Nigeria about 85,000 bed spaces. This finite space is currently being used! Sometimes with up to 65% occupancy rate and those patients may not all be able to be discharged to home care. So just having up to that number with Coronavirus requiring hospital admissions will over run our healthcare system with patients lying on the floors, roads etc making it impossible for healthcare workers to even do their jobs. Deaths of hundreds daily will quickly overwhelm our ability to bury the corpses. Therefore governments worldwide are trying to prevent this from happening by trying to reduce the number of cases to what their healthcare system can take.
We are so caught up in hero worship and rock-star preachers and their perceived covers that we have outsourced discernment.
3. When deaths occur so frequently within a short period from an infective condition there can be a quick breakdown of the economy and governments. Everything is connected the farms and transportation, the factories and stores, markets. If anarchy develops then society is lost.
4. At 4% mortality, this means that for every 1000 infected we will have 40 deaths! That is 40,000 for 1 million people and a projection of 100 million deaths if the whole world is affected using 4% mortality rate which is lower than what many countries are reporting. Has something like this occurred before?

Is this the plague prophesied in the Revelation? I don’t think so.
Governments alone cannot address it, the citizens must come together and pitch in. We must have responsible responses. Hiding away will not work! The world is a small village, you cannot sustain yourself by hiding. We must have people coming up with smart solutions and creative reasoning. We must get and organize volunteers. We must search out weaknesses in our systems and proffer solutions. We must plan for the worst possible scenarios, that’s the only guaranteed way of fighting this. We must look for gaps and fill them. Preparing for the worse case scenario is not being pessimistic but actually it’s being optimistic!
It means that you believe that it can be done. Not preparing is actually being pessimistic because you are running away because you are convinced nothing can be done. Some are catching in by bringing spurious prophecy and predictions as if that means anything.
We are so caught up in hero worship and rockstar preachers and their perceived covers that we have outsourced discernment. Being forewarned should lead to preparation not gathering of more followers. These guys already practice social distancing! They are surrounded by security and live far away from their followers. The response should be concern for their brethren not loss of income! It’s shocking how the faith groups have abandoned the pursuit of ethical conduct and godliness to liberals and atheists.
Have You Heard "Rescue Me" By Oasis?
Will a great prophet arise and still this tempest?
Is this the plagues prophesied in the Revelation? I don’t think so. Is this beatable, can we contain it?
Definitely yes if we apply all we know and are learning. Will it disappear in the summer? Probably not. The Spanish flu was more devastating in the second year. We must not assume but work assiduously to ascertain.
Will a great prophet arise and still this tempest? There is no precedence, mere unconfirmed anecdotal reports by bias reportage. Indeed the Bible reveals that the plagues coming cannot be stopped.
It brings to mind what happened to Jeremiah the prophet who prophesied about Israel going into captivity and how he was denounced for being too negative and pessimistic. He was even imprisoned. Should we pray about this?
Of course we should but what should the prayer point be? We should pray for those affected and those at the frontlines of treatment and containment of the virus.
We must pray for repentance for our nations. This is not popular but yea.
The inequality, the evils that our society populates, the godlessness etc. we must pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding to tackle all these. For our governments and leadership in the various spheres.
For the Christian, death is gain! Life is ephemeral and preparation-for eternity
What about praying for our safety? I should think that we have sufficient assurance from the scriptures that we are protected! It’s a given. It has nothing to do with amulets like mantles or oils but it’s innate resting on the foundation of our connection with the divine.
Yes we can pray for our safety but we must understand that for us it’s assured so long as we are walking in tandem with His will. We must know that for us, death is no loss!
