She felt his soft pat on her shoulders, Busola!! Busola! Please go into the room and sleep, you know how I dislike it when you sleep in the sitting room, what if someone walked in? She sat upright and yawned just after, am sorry dear, I must have slept off. Welcome, how was work? It was fine, he answered real quick and left for the room. It was clear her darling Samson saw the message, usually he planted a kiss and gave a tight homely hug every time he came back from work but instead he gave a cold response and scolded her for sleeping on the couch.
Worried and confused of what to do next, she sat at the dining room. I have never been this uncomfortable around Samson, was he annoyed? Should I confront him? I can’t believe this is all happening because of Ekaete. She felt a rage of angry and hatred rise within her, God!! I don’t want my home broken. Her eyes was heavy as at this time, she consoled herself and stood up to set the table for dinner.
Samson came out all freshened up and joined her to eat dinner. He said no words despite busola tried starting a conversation. How long would you go silent on me? Busola spoke out of frustration, be a man Samson and face what is ongoing. Our home might be at the verge of breaking because of your conversation with Ekaete and all you do is stay quiet. Busola was at the peak of her voice now, but Samson said nothing, he stared at her with disappointment and later left for the bed room. Busola wanted to run after him to at least get a reply to her hanging questions but she could not, instead she broke down in uncontrollably tears.
She could not phantom the scene that had just happened, had she lost her husband to Ekaete completely? The thought of losing her darling Samson sprung her to her feet, I must pray again she said, “ile mi ko gbodo tuka” She said in her mother language, meaning “my home must not be broken”. She paced around the room, praying against Ekaete and her forces hovering over her husband’s heart. After a while she decided to sleep.
She woke to the alarm from her phone, Samson must have left for work, she said. She turned to a white note close to her pillow….”Good Morning, I got an urgent text and left for the office early. Kiss the kids for me and have a good day.” The children!!! She ran off the bed to get them ready for school. All yesterday’s drama stressed her out so much she woke up too late for the kids and work.
Yes mummy, Samson and the kids are doing well. I would extend your greetings ma, bye mum. Busola’s mum always called to ask about their well-being. Her mum is closest to her, she thought of telling her mum how Ekaete was bent on wrecking her home and how her darling Samson had been silent on her. But she decided to handle things herself, telling mummy might get her really bothered, she concluded.
Busola kept praying and hoped things would be better between Samson and her. She had no more confrontations to make to him since all she did, she got no response. Two days after the incident now and they gradually grew apart. She sensed he still talked to Ekaete because of his frequent texting. She however grew to adjust to how situations were in her home and got herself busy to get thoughts off her mind, every marriage had their stormy days, she concluded hers was now and believed it would calm away.
After a long day from work, Busola came home to meet her husband, from his looks, she could tell something was wrong but could not place what exactly. He was undressed from his work cloths and his eyes heavy. Busola came close and gave him a hug.
What’s wrong dear? Did something bad happen? Please talk to me.
Her words made him cry more, he sniffed and finally uttered some words; am so sorry busola, am sorry I hurt you. Am sorry I kept my conversation between Ekaete and I away from you. Am sorry I went silent on you. I put the family and you at a risk and was dumb at it. At the office earlier, I slept and dreamt I lost you and the kids, I woke up only to realize how much havoc I had caused because I was too proud to apologize and desist from Ekaete. Busola mi, am sorry
Busola could not help but cry as he continued pleading, her lost Samson was back, her prayers were finally answered. It was no lie he was sorry, his words were assuring and true. Her Samson was back.
They both prayed and thanked God. Samson cut off whatever relationship he had with Ekaete. Their home was finally restored
The End.
